It was a sister station to WOPA 1490, the existing-working day WEUR.
Licensed to Oak Park, Illinois, WVAZ is owned by iHeartMedia, Inc.,
alongside sister stations WCHI-FM, WGCI-FM, WGRB, WKSC-FM, WLIT-FM
and WVON. At five p.m. on October 18, 1988, the station shifted to an urban grownup modern day format and the

The Federal Communications Commission fined the station $2,000 for
an episode which dealt with the matter of oral sexual
intercourse, and mentioned that the show's "titillating, pandering style" of
the episode's conversations constituted "broadcast obscenity".
It has been broadcast in Australia, Canada, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, New Zealand,
Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden and the U.K. The station at first
broadcast at 102.3 MHz, and experienced an ERP of 1,000 watts at a HAAT
of 250 ft. In 1974, the station's call indicator was modified to
WBMX, standing for "Black Music Experience", and
the station adopted an urban modern day structure. In 1958, the station's frequency was modified to 102.7 MHz, and its ERP and
HAAT have been enhanced to 3,550 watts and 260 ft respectively.
In 1962, the station's ERP was elevated to 8,100 watts, even though its HAAT was lowered to 231 ft.
